Product Overview

Ultraray Radiation Protection’s High Density (HD) Concrete Blocks provide radiation shielding for vault upgrades, nuclear facilities, medical construction, and industrial environments. Specifically, the material uses half the space of a traditional concrete structure while providing twice the density. As a result, it shields both neutron and gamma radiation more effectively than conventional concrete.

Ultraray offers this shielding solution at densities up to 300 pounds per cubic foot. High-density aggregates are the key ingredient in achieving these densities, and common options include hematite (Fe2O3), ilmenite (FeO*TiO2), magnetite (Fe3O4), and steel aggregate. Together, these aggregates allow the finished product to act as a composite shield against both neutron and gamma radiation.

Additionally, this material matches the versatility and usability of conventional concrete, so it integrates easily into both new builds and retrofits. For custom projects, Ultraray can pour, pump, or convey the mix to produce custom castings, or supply pre-fabricated modular blocks for faster installation. Furthermore, custom formulations use top-quality mineral aggregates to deliver the most affordable solution for your specification.

Because of these properties, the blocks eliminate the need for composite lead shields or borated polyethylene, and they commonly serve as additions to vault upgrades where shielding requirements escalate. Ultraray’s most popular pre-fabricated styles are Chevron (Interlocking) and Flat (Straight), and these space-saving modular units install easily when combined with matching density HD Grout.
