Mobile Radiation Protective Shields

Lightweight, mobile full-body radiation protective shields combining a lead glass vision window with a lower protective panel, designed to shield personnel from scattered X-ray radiation in interventional radiology, fluoroscopy, and surgical environments.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Lightweight aluminium frame construction – provides structural rigidity while keeping the overall shield weight manageable for repositioning between procedures and between rooms

  • Integrated lead glass vision window – the upper portion of each shields incorporates a transparent lead glass viewing area with a shielding value of 2.00 mmPb, maintaining an unobstructed line of sight to the patient and imaging field while providing upper body radiation protection

  • Multiple width configurations from 700 mm to 1700 mm – both models are available in eleven width increments, allowing procurement teams to specify the exact shield width required for the procedure room layout and table configuration

  • Two lower panel shielding options (WD204) – available with a lower panel shielding value of either 0.50 mmPb or 2.00 mmPb to match the radiation protection requirements of the clinical environment

  • Large-format lead glass window (WD504) – the WD504 features a significantly larger vision area than the WD204, providing a wider unobstructed viewing field for procedures where multiple personnel require simultaneous line of sight to the patient

  • Nuclear medicine compatible configuration available (WD204) – the WD204 is available with higher shielding values up to 10.00 mmPb on request, making it suitable for nuclear medicine environments where higher energy shielding is required

  • Electroconductive castors – all models are fitted with electroconductive wheels to reduce electrostatic charge buildup during repositioning in clinical environments

Product Overview

The MAVIG WD204 and WD504 are mobile full-body radiation protective shields designed for personnel working in environments where fixed or ceiling-mounted radiation protection is absent, insufficient, or where flexible positioning of a protective barrier is operationally necessary. Both shields combine upper and lower body protection in a single mobile unit, allowing a single shield to address the full height of the standing examiner or assistant without requiring separate ceiling-suspended and lower body components.

The WD204 is constructed from lightweight aluminium and features a lead glass vision window of 2.00 mmPb with a viewing area that scales with the overall shield width. The lower protective panel is available in 0.50 mmPb for standard fluoroscopic environments or 2.00 mmPb for higher-dose applications. For nuclear medicine applications requiring shielding values beyond 2.00 mmPb, the WD204 is available on request with values up to 10.00 mmPb, making it one of the few mobile shield options in the MAVIG range suited to isotope handling environments. The WD504 follows the same aluminium frame and castor construction but features a considerably larger lead glass window that spans nearly the full width of the shield, providing a wider and taller vision area for procedures where multiple personnel require unobstructed visibility simultaneously.

Both mobile barriers are available in eleven width configurations from 700 mm to 1700 mm, in 100 mm increments, and share a consistent overall height of approximately 1950 mm. This standardised height across the range simplifies procurement and specification for facilities managing multiple screens across different room types. Both models are manufactured in Germany by MAVIG GmbH and are available in Canada through Ultraray.

When to Use This Product

Use this product when:

  • A procedure room lacks ceiling-mounted or fixed radiation protection infrastructure and a mobile solution is required to protect standing personnel

  • Personnel must be shielded from scattered radiation at full standing height, covering both upper and lower body in a single unit

  • The screen must be repositioned frequently between procedures or between rooms without tools or structural modification

  • Higher shielding values are required for the lower panel due to elevated dose environments, including nuclear medicine applications (WD204 up to 10.00 mmPb on request)

  • A wide unobstructed vision field is required simultaneously for multiple personnel standing behind the screen (WD504)

  • Room layout or procedure workflow requires a screen that can be placed precisely at the point of use and locked in position

Where This Product Is Typically Found

This product is commonly used in:

  • Interventional radiology suites

  • Cardiac catheterization laboratories

  • Fluoroscopy procedure rooms

  • Nuclear medicine departments (WD204 with higher shielding values)

  • Surgical suites without fixed radiation protection infrastructure

  • Rooms undergoing renovation or reconfiguration where permanent shielding is temporarily absent
