Lead Lined Drywall Product Info

Installation Guide

Product Overview

Ultraray’s lead lined drywall and lead lined sheetrock are designed for radiation shielding applications requiring dependable protection and structural integration within walls and ceilings. Commonly used in medical imaging facilities, nuclear laboratories, industrial radiography environments, and research installations, these shielding systems combine high-purity sheet lead with standard construction materials to support efficient installation and long-term durability.

Lead lined drywall is commonly specified when large surface areas require consistent radiation shielding coverage. Ultraray bonds un-pierced sheet lead to drywall, gypsum board, plywood, and other structural materials to help support shielding continuity throughout the assembly.

Standard configurations include 1/2" and 5/8" drywall with custom lead thicknesses available based on shielding requirements. Specialty board options including fire-rated, mold-resistant, moisture-resistant, and impact-resistant drywall are also available for more demanding environments.

When shielding thickness exceeds 1/8", lead lined plywood is often recommended to provide additional structural support for the increased material weight.

Radiation Shielding Accessories

Additional shielding accessories are available to help maintain shielding continuity around penetrations and cut-outs, including:

  • Lead batten strips

  • Lead tabs

  • Lead disc covers

These accessories help support continuous radiation protection coverage around joints, fasteners, conduits, outlets, and other wall penetrations.

Custom Fabrication Capabilities

Ultraray’s CNC cutting department provides custom sizes and shapes for specialized shielding projects. Custom fabrication services support both standard construction layouts and complex shielding designs requiring precise dimensions and penetration coordination.

Applications may include:

  • Imaging suite wall shielding

  • Control room barriers

  • Ceiling shielding systems

  • Industrial inspection rooms

  • Nuclear medicine facilities

  • Custom modular shielding assemblies
